IsThatWebsiteDown (isthatwebsitedown.com) is a free website status checker. When you submit an address, our server makes one request to it and tells you whether it's up. These terms explain what the service does and its limits, and the privacy policy explains what data it handles, including the ads it shows.
Terms of Service
1. Acceptance of terms
By using IsThatWebsiteDown at isthatwebsitedown.com (the "Service"), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you don't agree, please don't use the Service.
2. What the Service does
When you submit a web address, our server makes one ordinary request to that address and reports whether it answered, the response code, how long it took, and a plain-English explanation. Each check waits up to about 12 seconds. The Service gives on-demand, informational checks only. It doesn't monitor sites continuously or send alerts.
3. Acceptable use
Use the Service for genuine status checks. Don't use it to overload, attack or stress-test any website, don't run it in bulk through scripts or automation, and don't use it to try to reach private or internal networks. The Service refuses private network addresses, and we may block traffic that looks like abuse.
4. No warranty
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind. Results depend on our server's location and network, and can be affected by bot protection, rate limits, regional blocks or short-lived server behaviour. A site can be up for us and down for you, or the other way round. We don't guarantee that any result is accurate, complete or current.
5. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, IsThatWebsiteDown isn't liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service or your reliance on any result it shows.
6. Third-party sites
Results include links to the websites you check, and our guides link to other sites. We don't control those sites and aren't responsible for their content, availability or privacy practices.
7. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. When we do, we'll change the "last updated" date on this page. Using the Service after a change means you accept the updated terms.
Privacy Policy
1. What we collect
There are no accounts, and we never ask for your name or email to run a check. When you check a site, our server receives the address you typed, along with the standard information every web request carries (your IP address, browser type and the time). We use the address to run the check. We don't save check results on our servers.
2. Your check history stays in your browser
The "Recently Checked Websites" and "Websites That Don't Exist" lists are saved in your browser's local storage, on your device only. They're never sent to us and nobody else can see them. Use the "Clear history" button, or clear this site's data in your browser settings, to delete them.
3. The sites you check
The website you check sees a request from our server, not from you. Your IP address isn't passed on to it. If you click "Visit site", you go to that website directly, and its own privacy policy applies.
4. Advertising and cookies
We show ads served by Google AdSense. Google and its partners use cookies to show ads based on your visits to this site and other sites on the internet. You can turn off personalized ads in Google's Ads Settings, and opt out of some other vendors' cookies at aboutads.info. See how Google uses information from sites that use its services. We don't set cookies of our own or use analytics. Our pages also load fonts from Google Fonts, which means Google receives your IP address and browser details when the fonts download.
5. Hosting logs and retention
Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs (IP address, request time, the page requested) for a limited period to run the service, keep it secure and prevent abuse. We don't keep any other copies of what you check.
6. Your choices
You can use the whole Service without giving us personal information. If you email us, we use your message and address only to reply, and you can ask us to delete that correspondence.
7. Contact
